Description:
If you’re anything like me you like to keep a list of possible blog post topics or article ideas. Additionally, I like to research my posts a bit by keeping track of source links, thoughts and the keywords I plan to target. Typically my blog article ideas and blog post topics ended up as Wordpress drafts or in a Google doc somewhere. A few weeks ago I decided I wanted to keep track of these blog post ideas inside of Wordpress. I looked around for a few Wordpress plugins but couldn’t find anything I liked. So, I decided to write “Post Ideas,” a Wordpress Plugin that allows you to manage your blog post ideas or blog article ideas from within Wordpress. Post Ideas allows you to add, edit, delete and send to the editor your post ideas while keeping track of the possible post’s working title, description, keywords, source links and priority. It generates a sortable list of your blog post ideas so you can quickly pick a post or article to write. Just click on the “write” link and the editor loads with the working title inserted. I hope you find Post Ideas useful. Happy Blogging!
update: This plugin will automatically create the required mysql table. If for some reason the table is not created. The zip file now includes a .sql file which can be imported into your Wordpress database using phpMyAdmin.

Perfect! Now I won’t lose them by putting my ideas on post its! LOL
I can’t download the file. It keeps taking me to the “Download trouble” page.
I understand your desire to stop people from hotlinking your downloads, but like DRM, those kinds of hacks sometimes cause more trouble than they’re worth….
I have been looking for something like this for a long time (not enough time to write one myself). One issue that I noticed, was that the wp_btpi table and sample post were not created for me when I activated the plugin. I had to manually go in to MySQL and add the table / sample post. I am on WP 2.3.2. No errors were reported when I activated the plugin, and until I added the table, etc., the Manage -> Post Ideas form did not work. Whenever I submitted an idea, it did not save, or generate an error.
@Stephen
Thanks for the comments. I sent ya an email and disabled the hotlink protection.
@Matt
Sorry about the install. I tested it on locally and live on 2.3.1 and 2.3.2 I didn’t have any trouble. I’ll keep an eye on it and check the install routine again. Thanks for the heads up.
Interesting Idea. I’ve been using a program called “Tasks” for this, but having it integrated into WordPress is a nice idea.
I do have a few comments:
1) I should be in a more obvious place — out of sight, out of mind. Maybe even link it from the Dashboard or show the top items on the list in Dashboard? Also, you might move it to the “Write” tab from “Manage”
2) The Description field should be bigger. make it a textarea instead of a short field.
3) If I click on “write”, the tags don’t make it into the tags field on the post edit screen.
Beyond a few quibbles, this is a very good idea. i’ll definitely be keeping an eye on its development.
(Psst… Subscribe to Comments plugin
Great suggestions Stephen, I think most of those can make it into the next release.
[…] Go get it. […]
I just want to say thanks in advance. I currently do exactly what you describe with ideas for posts - Google Docs and WordPress drafts. But that’s not really ideal, is it? I’m going to try the plugin now…
I’ve been using it quite a lot on another blog and it’s working great. I hope you have a similar experience.
